Bad Bosses Whine about Competition ( American Idol, FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC )
TV network newcomer, FOX, has created a show, American Idol (AI), that competes successfully for viewers against traditional networks ABC, CBS and NBC. So what do the big bosses at the old networks do? Whine, call their competitor names, and retreat.
CBS refers to AI as a "schoolyard bully." NBC calls it a "Death Star." ABC refuses to talk about it and schedules around it.
There seems to be an epidemic of passive aggression spreading among bosses at the top of corporate America—and not only in the entertainment industry. The epidemic reaches critical proportions when new competitors show the old timers the value of becoming innovative and listening to customers.
Fox is successful with AI because it's giving consumers what they want in television programming…hint, hint.
